In the design of walkways for photovoltaic power stations, industrial plants or rooftop platforms, zinc-aluminum-magnesium (ZAM) walkways and fiberglass grid (FRP) walkways are two common choices. Although FRP walkways have certain advantages in terms of lightweight and chemical corrosion resistance, ZAM walkways perform better in terms of structural strength, durability, safety and life cycle costs.
1. Durability
ZAM walkways: zinc-aluminum-magnesium coated steel plates (Zn-Al-Mg) are used, and their corrosion resistance is 3-6 times that of ordinary galvanized steel. They are especially suitable for high humidity and salt spray environments (such as coastal photovoltaic power stations), and their service life can reach more than 30 years.
FRP walkways: Although acid and alkali resistant, they are prone to aging and brittleness under long-term ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. After 5-10 years, they may experience problems such as reduced strength and surface powdering, and need to be replaced regularly.
ZAM walkways are more suitable for long-term outdoor use and reduce maintenance costs.
2. Structural strength
ZAM walkway: It uses high-strength steel substrate, can withstand the rolling of heavy equipment (such as photovoltaic cleaning vehicles), and is suitable for high-load scenarios.
FRP walkway: Lightweight but low rigidity, easy to deform under long-term pressure, only suitable for pure pedestrian passages, and cannot meet the needs of mechanical passage.
ZAM walkway is suitable for industrial-grade load-bearing requirements, and FRP is limited to light load use
3. Fire safety
ZAM walkway: metal material, non-combustible, meets Class A fire protection standards, and is suitable for photovoltaic power stations and other places with strict fire protection requirements.
FRP walkway: It may soften and burn when exposed to high temperatures, and release toxic smoke, posing a safety hazard.
ZAM walkway is better than FRP in fire safety.
4. Installation and maintenance
